The Trick of Friendship

“The only trick of friendship is to find people who are better than you are – not smarter, not cooler, but kinder, and more generous, and more forgiving – and then to appreciate them for what they can teach you, and to try to listen to them when they tell you something about yourself, no matter how bad – or good – it might be, and to trust them, which is the hardest thing of all but the best, as well.” – Hanya Yanagihara, A Little Life
This sentiment captures my feelings about EvaMarie. We have been colleagues and friends for many years. Eighteen of those years we worked together for the good of the people at Boston Avenue, EvaMarie with the children and me with the youth. We called our office area our “neighborhood”, a place where all were welcome, where we could share ideas for our ministry, celebrate the good times and lift up one another on those difficult days. EvaMarie is the kind of friend that helped me grow in my ministry, always willing to listen and advise in a kind manner. She taught me a lot and still does. Her kindness overflows all over the church. The world needs more EvaMarie’s. I am fortunate to call her my friend.
Keep spreading kindness, soul sister, you are so loved!
“A sweet friendship refreshes the soul.” – Proverbs 27:9
