services at Boston Avenue
Join us this week!
Wherever you are, you can join us at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church. In-person or online, we invite you to participate in our many worship opportunities and to connect with our community.
You can now join us for worship from anywhere in the world – the 11 a.m. service is streamed live on our website, YouTube, and Facebook pages, as well as live broadcast locally via television on KTUL-TV, Channel 8!
On Sundays, greeters at the main entrances will welcome you and help you find your way. Information is also available at welcome centers on the first and second floors. All are welcome here!
Contemporary Sunday Worship Service
🕙 10:00 a.m.
Our modern worship service, called 13th Street Worship, is held each Sunday at 10 a.m. in Community Hall. This contemporary worship service is more casual and interactive, with an inclusive and affirming community🌈. Each Sunday, we start worship with our affirmation statement – “We are a place to belong for all people seeking God’s love without fear.” Our 13th Street band leads us as we sing contemporary praise music. Communion is offered each Sunday in this service, and is open to all.
Traditional Sunday Worship Service
🕘 9:00 a.m. & 🕚 11:00 a.m
Join us in-person in our iconic art-deco Sanctuary for Sunday morning worship! This traditional style of worship includes organ music, prayer, choir anthems, scripture reading, congregational singing from our hymnal, and a sermon from the Senior Pastor. Our youth Chapel Choir sings each Sunday during the 9 a.m. service, while our adult Chancel Choir leads in song during the 11 a.m. service (and if you love to sing, our choirs are always open to new members!) Holy Communion is served the first Sunday of each month, and is open to all.
Sunday communion services
🕣 8:45 a.m. & 🕛 12:05 p.m.
Holy Communion is served the first Sunday of each month in our traditional worship services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., but on other Sundays, you can attend a very brief (10 minutes) Communion service in our Rose Chapel. We celebrate Eucharist with an open table, which means that all are welcome, regardless of membership, age, or difference of any kind. In this spirit of inclusivity and fellowship, we also offer gluten-free communion bread and non-alcoholic grape juice to accommodate dietary restrictions and personal preferences.
In addition to worship, on Sunday mornings at 9:50 a.m. we offer Sunday School classes for all ages, including classes for children, youth, and adults.
For caregivers with young children (infant through preschool age), childcare is available for each service from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday mornings.
At Boston Avenue, we offer a variety of options for worship assistance to help foster an experience that is accessible to all! These include:
Large print worship bulletins.
Telecoil-compatible hearing loop in the Sanctuary.
Gluten-free communion wafers.
Closed captioning on our television broadcast and live streaming.
Accessible parking spaces around the building.
Four elevators which facilitate entry into the church.
Extra wheelchairs available for use inside the building.
Worship at Boston Avenue UMC is a transformative journey through the liturgical seasons to enrich the faith of individuals, families, and our vibrant community.
Join us at Boston Avenue UMC as we embark on this sacred journey, creating cherished memories and growing together in faith, love, and community.
Advent & Christmas
During Advent, we eagerly anticipate the birth of Christ through cherished traditions like the Advent wreath lighting, a performance of Handel’s Messiah from our renowned music ministry, our dynamic and moving Lessons and Carols service, and more. Our Christmas celebrations are filled with the timeless beauty of carols, candlelight services, and the joyous proclamation of Christ’s birth.
Lent & Easter
In the solemnity of Lent, we reflect on Christ’s sacrifice through meaningful worship services, contemplative practices, and engaging community events. Then, experience the power of redemption and the joy of resurrection with Easter services at Boston Avenue. From our traditional Easter celebrations to a family service led by children, there is a space for everyone to celebrate new life in Christ.
BCG Lecture Series
Usually held during the first weekend of Lent, the BCG Lecture Series features a distinguished religious speaker or scholar and has included a variety of outstanding speakers over the years, including bishops, professors, Christian pastors, and Jewish rabbis.
