Boston Avenue United Methodist Church is an historic, theologically progressive church located in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma. Founded in 1893, our congregation now consists of over 7,500 members from all walks of life. The thing we have in common? We are all seeking to love God, love our neighbor, and grow in our spiritual journey.
more than a building
Our iconic building is considered to be one of the finest examples of ecclesiastical Art Deco architecture in the United States. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and has been designated a National Historic Landmark. And while our building is incredible, Boston Avenue UMC is much more than a building – it is a place to belong, a community working to love our neighbors, and a resource and support to you on your faith journey.

Love Lives Here
As we prepared to celebrate 130 years as a congregation in 2023, we worked with an award-winning filmmaker to help tell the story of who Boston Avenue is. The product of nearly 70 hours of interviews with over 120 people from our church and our larger community, “Love Lives Here,” showcases how our core values are lived and embodied in our church community.
Christianity is declining in the United States. Churches are riven by political disagreements, even as they struggle to stay open. The Methodist denomination is experiencing its most significant crisis since Methodists split over slavery in 1844. In the face of these challenges, one church – Boston Avenue UMC – considers who they are, where they came from, and what it means to be a church community today.
