Word of the Week, March 29: Easter

Holy Week is upon us. The Christian calendar invites us to walk with Jesus through these last days as he confronts the authorities and faces betrayal, a trial, suffering, and death. We have special services on Holy Thursday and Good Friday to draw us deeper into the profound moments of following Jesus during this week. I hope you will join us.

Easter services start on Saturday, Easter Eve. Our Children’s Department, with our choirs of children and youth, will lead us in this important and festive celebration of Jesus being raised. We will start at 4:00 p.m. in the sanctuary and then after the service move to the Boston Avenue Park for an Egg Hunt with the children. It is a delightful way to experience Easter! (This also is the service that will be broadcast on Sunday morning.)

On Easter Sunday morning we will worship at 9:00 a.m. (in the Sanctuary) and offer two services at 11:00 a.m. (traditional worship in the Sanctuary and our modern Alternative Worship in Jubilee Hall). They will all be festive celebrations of the resurrection and God’s love overcoming sin and death.

For the sermon on Easter Eve and Easter Sunday morning we will read from Mark’s account in Mark 16:1-8. It tells us of the bewildering experience that first Easter morning, when the followers of Jesus find out he has been raised. Join us for the sermon, Left With An Empty Tomb.

Plan now to participate and be ready to invite others you encounter who are looking for an inspiring Easter worship experience in a warm and caring environment! Boston Avenue will be alive and celebrating God’s love conquering death! We hope you can be with us!
