New Here?

You Matter at Boston Avenue UMC

Our vision is to be a thoughtful Christian community that connects all people with God’s unconditional love.

We believe that everyone is a beloved child of God with gifts and talents to share – and that means you too!

If you want to be part of Christ’s love in action, you’re in the right place.

A historic, theologically progressive church located in downtown Tulsa, Boston Avenue invites our congregation to think deeply, grow spiritually, and love generously. You’ll receive rich and meaningful worship, nourishing fellowship with others, and abundant missions and social justice opportunities.

Our Theology

At Boston Avenue, we believe that everyone is a beloved child of God. Our church embraces an affirming and inclusive theology that welcomes everyone into membership, leadership, and full participation in the church.

Our theology draws on the rich Wesleyan teachings and heritage of the United Methodist faith, including our understanding that everyone’s faith journey and questions will differ. We embrace theological tools like the Wesleyan Quadrilateral, which incorporates reason, experience, tradition, and scripture in theological development.

We strive for our missions and ministries to embody the teachings of Matthew 22:37-39  – “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” and “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Our Core Values

Our ASCENDS core values were discerned in 2018 by a diverse team through an intensive process. The process included feedback and data from staff and leaders, a review of the missions and ministries of Boston Avenue’s previous 125 years, an all-church survey, and more. We strive to embody these core values throughout all of our programs and ministry efforts.

Affirms everyone is a beloved child of God.
Sees spiritual growth as a lifelong journey.
Cultivates music, architecture, and the arts as a means of experiencing God.
Embraces a reasoned approach to faith and scripture.
Nurtures our congregation to be ambassadors for reconciliation.
Develops mission partnerships as Christ’s love in action.
Strives for excellence in service to God.

your journey of faith matters here

Music

Boston Avenue’s music ministry offers people opportunities for all ages. Whether it’s singing, ringing handbells, playing an instrument, or performing in a musical…we have something for you!

Children

We want children to know they are beloved children of God. We provide safe, fun, age-appropriate, and meaningful faith formation opportunities for all children to learn the Christian story, study the Bible, and be Christ’s love in action through missions.

Missions

We are called to go forth into the world and be of service, and if service is your calling, you will find many like-minded and kind-hearted people to work alongside to help bring Christ’s love into our daily living.

Small groups

Small groups offer a more intimate community of fellowship and connection in a larger church like Boston Avenue. We can help you find a Sunday School class, study group, or community like United Women in Faith to begin new friendships today!

Life events

As we journey through the stages and ages of life, it’s important to celebrate and mark these transitions as well. Boston Avenue honors the journey with services and classes to help navigate life’s changes.

Adults

From faith formation to missions, there are countless opportunities to be of service. You can be sure you will have space to develop, question, grow and to serve here at Boston Avenue!
