Opportunities for spiritual growth this Lenten season!

Lenten Study: Confession

Confession may be good for the soul, as the saying goes, but most people give little thought to its practice, at least on a daily basis. Like prayer, a person’s needs tend to trigger a confessional response. As a result, we often have a limited understanding of the true nature of the practice. Confession is so much more than a call to apologize, though that is an integral part.

Confession is fundamentally relational, providing the opportunity to experience a much fuller relationship with God. The book, “Confessions” by Paul W. Chilcote, provides opportunities both to examine and to practice the many forms that confession takes.

We will have two class opportunities over this book:

  • Mondays, February 19 – March 11 at 2:00 p.m. – led by Rev. EvaMarie Campbell, join us in person in the Asbury Room or online via Zoom (ID: 819 8160 1067; Passcode: 634615)
  • Wednesdays, February 21 – March 13 at 6:00 p.m. – led by EvaMarie Campbell and Melanie Linsky, join us in person in Room J229 or online via Zoom (ID: 880 5194 1969; Passcode: 993402)

Lenten Prayer Stations

Throughout the season of Lent, there will be four different Prayer Stations located on the Sanctuary Level of the Main Building. They are available for you to experience any time the Church is open. Deepen your Lenten experience by engaging with each Prayer Station.

Visit the Library for “Forty Days, Forty Items” and “Easter Contemplation Beads,” visit the Parlor for “Praying in Color,” and find “Prayer & Release” in the Groom’s Room/Medical Aid Room. Details for each activity can be found at the stations, as well as on flyers available throughout the building.

Lenten Challenge: Read A Chapter A Day

Reading the Bible is one of the essential spiritual practices of disciples. Accept the Lenten challenge of reading one chapter a day in the Gospel of John, and grow together in faith, wisdom, and community!

Our challenge begins on Thursday, February 15. If you would like daily reminders of scripture readings, visit https://newsletters.umcdiscipleship.org/read-chapter-a-day-signup but registration is not required to participate.

This challenge is sponsored by the Adult Ministry Department in partnership with United Methodist Discipleship Ministries.
