Bible study is very important at Boston Avenue! Each year the church offers a number of classes and opportunities for study. The following is a current list of available bible studies.
Dr. Biggs’s Bible Study Class meets every Sunday morning from 9:40 to 10:40 a.m. in the sanctuary. In this class Dr. Biggs begins with Genesis and walks through every book in the Bible, chapter by chapter, verse by verse, for a thorough look. When the class reaches the end of Revelation, it begins again with Genesis. Podcasts, tapes and DVDs of this class are available.
Disciple Bible Study I, II, III & IV - Each of these courses is about 34 weeks long, with significant reading assignments during the week and video presentations by well-known Bible scholars and group discussion during class time.
Disciple I – General Overview of the Bible
Disciple II – Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts
Disciple III – The Prophets and the Letters of Paul
Disciple IV – The Writings, Revelation
Christian Believer is a 34-week study of the classic doctrines and writings of the Christian faith, as well as its most significant theologians.
Jesus in the Gospels is a 34-week comparative study of the four Gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
Invitation Classes offer shorter, less demanding Bible study opportunities with the busy individual in mind. Each class is about 8 weeks in length, and the curriculum options currently include: Invitation to the Old Testament, Invitation to the New Testament, Invitation to Genesis, Invitation to Matthew, and Invitation to Romans. Each class session is 60 to 90 minutes long.
Lectionary Class meets weekly on Tuesday mornings to study the lectionary scriptures for the week and study Dr. Biggs’ sermons on those texts.
