Sometimes it is easiest to experience God's presence when you leave behind the distractions of your everyday life and reach out to others.
Whether it be around the corner or across the globe, it is our mission to share the love and message of Christ to others in need. Boston Avenue supports and provides many different opportunities to serve others, as we in turn grow in spirit and faith. These opportunities include serving on mission trips through our United Methodist Volunteer-In-Mission programs, offering a helping hand to our direct neighbors through local missions and special projects, or by serving on one of our committees that focus on mission work.

Haiti Relief Effort
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), which has a field office in Haiti, is hard at work there and say they need donations to help provide clean water, food and temporary shelter. If you would like to help, make a check payable to UMCOR, mark it "Haiti Emergency, Advance #418325," and mail it to UMCOR, PO Box 9068, New York, NY 10087. You can also donate online at
http://secure.gbgm-umc.org/donations/umcor/donate.cfm?code=418325&id=3018760. (Remember, 100% of donations to UMCOR go directly to help the people of Haiti, as the overhead is already provided by the United Methodist Church.)
We will probably send a volunteer-in-mission team to the area at a later date, once it is safe and organization is in place. In the meantime, we ask all of you to join us in supporting them in prayer. We will let you know of any new efforts as they arise.
No matter what your talents are, you can be of service to others. When you are called to serve in any of our missions, you will be blessed in ways you can't even imagine as you "love others as yourself."

BA Missions Committees
Work Area on Missions Committee
The Work Area on Missions meets monthly and members serve on subcommittees to plan and implement mission outreach and hands-on service opportunities. It supports two mission experiences each year; one foreign/domestic and one local.
Local Missions Subcommittee
The Local Missions Subcommittee is responsible for our Lights On for Cookson campaign to help pay utility bills at our Methodist mission among the Native American population in Cookson, Oklahoma, an area with significant needs. The church is in a covenant relationship to help support the Rev. Meri Whitaker, the missionary assigned to Cookson.
