It is so much more enjoyable to celebrate life's joyous milestones, or endure the difficult times, when you are surrounded by a church family. Boston Avenue's church family wants to be present to our members in all of life's special events.

Birth - New babies are reasons for great excitement in the church! When a baby is born, a red carnation is placed on the altar the following Sunday to announce the good news, and an announcement is also placed in our weekly newspaper. New parents receive a gift packet with a baby Bible, a personalized diaper bag tag, information about church programs for babies and new parents. Age-appropriate information about child development is also sent out as the baby reaches 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 24 months. Please call the church office 583.5181, to let us know when your baby is born.

Baptisms are also reasons for our celebration. If the baptism occurs in the 11:00 service on Sunday, it is televised and parents can request a DVD of the service as a keepsake. The family also receives a beautiful certificate of baptism. Call the office to schedule

Confirmation is the next important step as a child's affirming his or her own faith in God and becoming full professing church members. Sixth graders spend the fall in confirmation class during Sunday School, and older youth can participate as well. The classes lead to Confirmation Sunday in November each year, and each youth is confirmed and welcomed as a new member in the 11:00 worship service. Contact Debbie Peterson 699.0124 for more information.

Weddings - When two persons enter into holy matrimony, they not only pledge faith to each other, but they also enter into covenant with God. It is the desire of this congregation and its ministers that every wedding ceremony shall be a service of worship and that the occasion shall be memorable and truly beautiful.

For information on wedding fees, availability dates, and further details, contact Sue Venable, our wedding coordinator, at the church 583.5181. Walk-in weddings are available at no charge. The church no longer hosts non-member weddings.

Death - All persons and families ultimately experience death, and the church is a great source of comfort and support for family members. Dr. Bill Tankersley, our Minister of Pastoral Care, is always available to visit with grieving families and to help make necessary arrangements. Sunday School classes provide great support for their members through meals and other expressions of caring. The church has a collumbarium where church members can choose to be inurned at death, and memorial services help family and friends to give thanks to God and to commend a loved one back to His care and keeping.
